SEM is utilizing various means of “marketing” a website in order for it to become more relevant in regard to search engine searches and their rankings.  SEM constitutes Ad words; which comprises of pay per call (particularly beneficial for local providers as it enables potential consumers to get in touch directly to a company with one click), article submissions, and advertising.

  4. Sitemaps: Adding a site map (a page listing and linking to all the other major pages on your site) makes it easier for all the robots that search the web for new sites to pick up your little corner on the web.
  5. Clean URL’s: Make your URLs more search-engine-friendly by naming them with clear keywords. That means no:
  6. Flash: Yes flash on a site looks great but remember that the robots can not pick up any of the text of ideas within the flash content. Is it awful to have flash? No it looks nice and that’s part of keeping people at your site but you need the content as well.
  7. Images: The robots that scan the web can only search text, not text in your images — which is why you need to make the words associated with your images as descriptive as possible.
  8. Content: Yes this is massive. You have to have content on your pages with keywords that are relative to your site and that of your industry. You have to also continually update the content, an old paragraph you wrote a year ago about how much you rock isn’t going to cut it…
  9. Social Media: It’s the easiest way to personify your company and make a real connection to your potential customers. Remember this is where they are, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn….
