Instagram Now Has the Rights to Sell YOUR Photos!

Come January, Instagram will officially be able to sell users’ photos without payment or notification. The first huge policy shift since Facebook bought the photo-sharing app, FB claims the rights to license all public Instagram photos to companies or any other organization.  Not only will Instagram have the rights to any photos featured on your profile, but unless you delete your account before the deadline on January 16th, there is no way to opt-out.

So what exactly does Instagram’s new intellectual property policy mean? Basically, any photos you’ve taken can be used for advertising purposes without your consent. For example, ALL of your Instagram posts, from your  Caribbean cruise vacation to your child’s first day at school, can show up in a glossy brochure, in a TV ad, a website, or another form of advertising for any random company willing to pay.

Hopefully Facebook and Instagram will rethink this policy which has created an uproar from their many users. Who is ready to protest???
